12th Finnish Flame Day (Liekkipäivä)

Dear all,

The Finnish Thermal Energy Research Association (FTERA) would like to invite all interested to participate in the 12th Finnish Flame Day (Liekkipäivä). The event takes place on the 11th and 12th of November in Kuopio. The event will start with a dinner on November 11th in Scandic Kuopio (Satamakatu 1) and a full-day technical program on November 12th. The technical program consists of keynote lectures, a panel discussion and poster presentations.

This biennial event is a special forum for both industry and academia in the field of thermal energy science and technology in Finland.  The event will be chaired by Professor Olli Sippula from the University of Eastern Finland.

The theme for this year is:

Towards net-zero emissions in thermal energy systems”

Call for abstract

A poster session for researchers and students will be held on the second day of the event. This session allows young researchers to directly network with industry representatives, more senior researchers and other potential future colleagues.

The organizing committee is seeking contributions from students and postdocs in the wide range of topics relating to thermal energy, including but not limited to:

topics relating to thermal energy, including but not limited to:

  • Waste-to-energy: Co-combustion and thermochemical conversion technologies
  • Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS)
  • Fuel characterization
  • Reaction kinetics in combustion chemistry
  • Heterogeneous and spray combustion
  • Diagnostic process modeling and optimization
  • Emission formation and characteristics
  • Emission control and CO2 mitigation
  • Ash related phenomena during combustion
  • Ash management and utilization
  • Digitalization in the power sector
  • Production of energy carriers, chemicals and materials
  • Combustion engine technologies
  • Heat recovery and transfer technologies
  • Power-to-X technologies & e-fuels
  • Techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment of thermal energy systems
  • Policies and strategies analysis under energy transition.

The abstract should include a maximum of 250 words (excluding possible references and figure/table captions) and can contain in total two figures or tables. The possible reference list should be concise.  Please list all authors of the work and their affiliation clearly.

The abstract template can be found at:
